Denis Dercourt trained as a musician. After getting degrees in political science and philosophy, he now teaches the viola and chamber music at the Strasbourg Conservatory. While still a student at the Paris Conservatory, he performed in chamber ensembles and as a soloist in places like Salle Pleyel and Carnegie Hall. He has also free-lanced for French and foreign pop-music groups. He shot several short works on video and super-8 before making a medium-length film, "Le Déménagement," in 1996, the year he founded a production outfit ("Les films à un dollar") with his brother Tom, who produces all his films. "Les Cachetonneurs" is Dercourt's first feature film. Denis Dercourt has just completed his second feature film, "Lise et André," to be released on November 29, 2000.
