UniFrance Films hosted its annual Rendez-vous with French Cinema in Paris from January 15-12 this year.
The film market
The film market at the uniFrance Films Rendez-vous event celebrated its 15th year with continued success, with 445 professionals (including 42 exhibitors) from 55 countries taking part in 2013.
100 films were screened over four days, including 44 titles yet to be released. Attendance at these screenings showed an increase over 2012, marking record figures for the event, with an average of 35 spectators registered per screening.
In addition to the enthusiastic reception given to the opening film, It Happened in Saint-Tropez by Danièle Thompson, which was presented in a gala screening to a packed house, a host of French comedies attracted particular notice:
- Under the Rainbow by Agnès Jaoui, which registered the highest attendance at the market, and Wrestling Queens by Jean-Marc Rudnicki, starring Nathalie Baye and Marilou Berry. Both films were screened in the presence of members of their cast and crew.
- The Brats by Anthony Marciano, starring Alain Chabat and Max Boublil.
- Cycling with Moliere by Philippe Le Guay, starring Fabrice Luchini and Lambert Wilson.
We can also note the strong interest in the screening of promo reels organized by Wild Bunch.
UniFrance Films took advantage of the presence of exhibitors at the event to hold a round table on customer loyalty strategies, attended by Jason Wood (director of the Curzon group in the UK), Emmanuel Papillon (director of Louxor in Paris), Engin Palabiyik (acquisitions director at Mars Entertainment in Turkey), and Audrey Azoulay (deputy chief executive of the CNC).
