Biography
Davy Chou directed his first feature film Golden Slumbers in 2011. This documentary about the birth of Cambodian cinema and its brutal destruction by the Khmer Rouge in 1975 was presented at the Berlinale, among other film festivals. His next feature, Diamond Island, was awarded the SACD Prize at Critics’ Week in 2016.
In 2022, his film Return to Seoul, which received an excellent critical reception, was selected for Un Certain Regard and in many leading festivals (Toronto, Busan, New York, Morelia, Seville, etc.). It will represent Cambodia at the Oscars in 2023.
In parallel, Chou also pursues a career as a producer. For example, he co-produced Onoda, 10,000 Nights in the Jungle by Arthur Harari, as well as films by Cambodian filmmakers, including Kavich Neang.
