The 76th Annual Academy Awards nominees have been announced, with one French short film and two feature films on the Oscars shortlist.
After "I'll Wait for the Next One…" by Philippe Orreindy 's nomination in 2003, this year could see "Squash" by Lionel Bailliu bringing home the top prize in the Best Short Film category. This nomination tops off the film's brilliant career, having been honored with multiple awards and selections around the world.
So with "Squash" considered a "great film that does not last very long," hopes are high that Lionel Bailliu will, twelve years after Sam Karmann stole the limelight with his film "Omnibus," be honored with the Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film.
Two French productions have been nominated in the Best Feature Film category: "The Triplets of Belleville" by Sylvain Chomet (Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song) and the co-production "The Barbarian Invasions" by Denys Arcand (Best Original Screenplay and Best Foreign Language Film).
All will be revealed at the 76th Academy Awards Ceremony to be held February 29…
