Press coverage on French animations at the Annecy Festival

What have international media outlets said about French animated films shown at Annecy? The remarkably strong presence of French productions in the awards list has been reported in several outlets, including Variety, Animation Magazine, and animació

Among the feature films presented at this year's festival, a number of titles have attracted particular interest in the international press:

"An engaging story directed with great sensitivity" is how Screen describes My Sunny Maad. "This film invites us to think about the reasons why we end up making decisions that are totally at odds with our way of looking at the world," states Animation-Week also published an in-depth interview with the film's director, Michaela Pavlátová.

Zippyframes delivers a review of the "highly-anticipated and excellent film" by Florence Miailhe, The Crossing.

For Screen Daily, Even Mice Belong in Heaven is described as a "charming stop-motion animation that is a visual delight." Variety announces that "Charades has closed major sales on the film."

Among the short films presented at Annecy, Mom and Under the Skin, the Bark, were included in the favorites of Animation Magazine: "Annecy's Short-Form Magic: A Sneak Peek at the Stunning 2021 Edition."

The Awakening of the Insects, Swallow the Universe, and What Resonates in Silence were singled out for praise by Variety: "10 Shorts Not To Miss at Annecy 2021."

Variety also reported on the panel discussion organized by Unifrance during the festival, titled "The Voices of French Animation at the Annecy Festival: A new generation of directors," which brought together Léoluna Robert-Tourneur, Marine Blin, and Kajika Aki Ferrazzini, with Eleanor Coleman moderating.

Animacionparaadultos shone a spotlight on five of the French shorts selected at the festival, with an article dedicated to each of them:

Reporting on productions in development, Cartoonbrew covered the new projects presented in the pitch sessions by Sacrebleu Productions and Miyu Productions.

Zippyframes published an article titled: "Realism and adventure in the 9 pitches presented at Annecy." Five of these projects include one or more French producers.
