An event organized by UniFrance in collaboration with the French Embassy in China, the 16th French Film Panorama in China opened its doors in Beijing on June 24 in the presence of Claude Lelouch, who is special patron of this year's festival.
The delegation attending this year's festival also included the actor Melvil Poupaud and directors Anne Fontaine, Arthur de Pins, and Alexis Ducord. The delegation was joined by Frédérique Bredin, president of the CNC, and Serge Toubiana, president of UniFrance.
In his role as festival patron, Claude Lelouch has lead a discussion on his film A Man and Woman at a special public master class to be held at the Broadway Moma Cinema on Tuesday, June 25. In addition, along with his producer Victor Hadida, Lelouch also presented his latest film, The Best Years of a Life, at its Chinese premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival on June 23. This film will be distributed in China by Road Pictures, who were also behind the distribution of the highly successful Capernaum (which registered over €47 million at the Chinese box office and attracted close to 10 million spectators) and who will soon be releasing Cold War on Chinese screens.
After Beijing, the ten feature films presented at the French Film Panorama event will travel to six other cities across China until mid-July: Tianjin, Chengdu, Dalian, Xiamen, Wuhan, Canton, Shenzhen, Nanjing, Xi’an, and Kunming. The lineup for this year’s Panorama was put together in collaboration with the films’ distributors in China and two exhibitors, Broadway and Lumière Pavilion.
We can also note that the Shanghai International Film Festival, which took place from June 15 through 24, presented the following films prior to the opening of the French Film Panorama: Pure As Snow, By the Grace of God, Mademoiselle de Joncquières, Varda by Agnès, and The Best Years of a Life, which was screened in the presence of Claude Lelouch. Lelouch also present the festival's Best Film award at the closing ceremony, accompanied by jury president Nuri Bilge Ceylan.
