An initiative organized by Unifrance, the Young French Cinema program makes available a selection of today's best films and filmmakers to audiences in the USA, specifically focusing on rising talent. Since the launch of its second program in January this year, 98 film screenings have been organized in 26 venues.
Last year's event, which marked the inauguration of the Young French Cinema program, provided 53 film screenings held in 11 cities across North America.
For the 2016 edition, the film that has been programmed the largest number of times is The Last Hammer Blow by Alix Delaporte, followed by Story of Judas by Rabah Ameur-Zaïmeche and Young Tiger by Cyprien Vial. The directors Alix Delaporte and Rabah Ameur-Zaïmeche made the trip to the USA to lead master classes and take part in Q&A sessions with audiences to accompany the screenings of their films. The short films included in the program are available for viewing free-of-charge and have also been screened in numerous venues, either as part of a joint screening program or individually.
The various venues and public institutions that have hosted these screenings include the FIAF (New York), Brown University, the Film Society of Minneapolis, Harvard University, the Gene Siskel Film Center, the New Orleans French Film Festival, Honolulu Museum, Bryn Mawr Film Institute, the Sherbrooke Festival Cinéma du Monde, the Alliance Française in Porto Rico, and the Gateway Film Center.
