Synopsis
A pioneer of cinema in the 1920s before the era of talkies in Hollywood, American director Dorothy Arzner created strong female characters that defied the norms of marriage and heterosexuality. Openly homosexual and the only female director in Hollywood from 1927 to 1943, she challenged the conventions of the patriarchal system with more than 16 films to her credit. While admired by some, including Francis Ford Coppola and Jodie Foster who would restore her films, she remains largely forgotten in Hollywood. In short, a film about a crucial piece of Western cinema historiography.
