Synopsis
Robinson Crusoe, an English plantation owner in Brazil, boards the *Santa Lucia* bound for the coast of Guinea, where he intends to engage in the slave trade. Off the coast of Santo Domingo, he is forced at gunpoint by the ship’s captain—whom he had tried to prevent from making a stop to sell some slaves—to board a lifeboat. A storm drives Robinson toward an island off the coast of Venezuela, along with the Santa Lucia, from which no one survives. After salvaging all the ship’s cargo, Robinson lives alone for years until the unexpected arrival of cannibals.
