Synopsis
In Polynesia, a pack of 700 sharks rules the roost in the Fakarava Atoll pass. It is the largest known gathering of gray sharks to date. How does it evolve? What are its survival and hunting strategies? The scientific team led by Laurent Ballesta is conducting a study on an unprecedented scale: fitting around 40 sharks with microchips to track their movements during nighttime hunts. Never before studied on such a scale, the discovery of these behaviors may validate the hypothesis that there are more elaborate group hunting patterns than meets the eye. To succeed in this scientific, technological, and human challenge, the team has been preparing since 2014 to dive into the heart of the horde, without cages or protection, without bait or feeding. A world first
