Synopsis
A digitization initiative is enabling archaeologists, art historians and heritage curators to bring the Palace of Versailles archive collections back to life. The film chronicles the gradual transformation of the modest hunting lodge built by Louis XIII into a dazzling palace that draws millions of visitors three centuries later. Using computer-generated images based on archive material and archaeological finds, it has been possible to reconstruct long-vanished spaces, such as the Small Gallery of Louis XIV, where the Mona Lisa used to hang alongside a Titian Magdalene.
