Synopsis
On arriving in Esmeraldas, Patrice Raynal is plunged into the tumult of the carnival. At first, these activities seem to be an affirmation of the province's African heritage. The superficial pleasure of the festivities quickly masks the true situation of Ecuador's Afro-descendants. A story told in the first person, the director recounts his perceptions of Afro-Emeraldan culture, passing through questions about political representation, racism, and contemporary colonization.
