Synopsis
Rivka survived the massacres of the Jewish population of her Lithuanian village in 1941. After the war, she found the records of synagogue music, which belonged to her neighbour, at the mayor’s son’s house. Sixty years later, she made me listen to them and told me the story. This film is based on Rivka’s tales. But it is also the cruel story of three aborted attempts to make a film with her. During a first trip in 1999, Rivka did not want to lend me her records. In 2001, she was filmed, but the sequence did not remain in the film, Racines. And today, when I’ll return to Lithuania, Rivka will no longer be there. The film is Rivka’s testimony and also a reflection on documentary cinema.
