Christina, a young woman from a poor, country family in Southern Chile, arrives in Santiago with the hope of finding love. She rapidly finds work as a caregiver, looking after Milos, an elderly Hungarian who she helps to bathe and to whom she reads National Geographic articles. In her free time, she flirts with the park gardener or with Tristan, a thirty-three-year-old, middle-class architect. She met the latter after he was robbed of his wallet, which she found and returned to him. Tristan is temporarily without a job because his workers are on strike. His girlfriend has just left him and he has nowhere to go. He decides to return to his childhood home, where he finds his mother, now blind and eccentric and living with a vulgar magician. Tristan wanders, Cristina follows him. Only fate keeps them apart from each other.
