Synopsis
The military dictatorship that ravaged Brazil in the seventies marks one of the most violent pages of the country’s history. Many political prisoners were imprisoned in a jail on Ilha Grande, on the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro. The contact between political and ordinary prisoners during this period is an important part of the violence in which the country now finds itself.(br>
Through the story of two prisoners who were childhood friends, the film retraces the relationship between the middle classes and the people living in the favelas during the past 50 years.
Miguel, a young white, middle-class man, was jailed for his ideas and is now a member of Congress. Jorge, a black man, jailed for minor robbery, is now the head of the country’s largest drug ring. The wheel of fortune continues to turn when Miguel’s daughter, fascinated by life in the favelas, falls in love with a young drug trafficker.
