Synopsis
First up, there’s Goran, whom everybody calls Kubrick because he’s nuts about movies. Then there’s Karim, who has more affinity for flirting with girls than for films by Ingmar Bergman. Lastly, there’s Didier, aka Toxic. He may not be the brightest dude on the block, but when he wakes up and unexpectedly finds himself on a film set, he comes in very useful as a driver to move a truckload of film equipment. He was asked so nicely by an assistant director to get the gear off set that he drives it all the way home to his hood in Bobigny on the outskirts of Paris – much to Kubrick’s delight who sees this as an opportunity to make his dream of directing a film come true.
Encouraged by his father, who wants to be an extra, Kubrick gets his two buddies to write a screenplay while he takes care of casting the film. He offers the lead role to Sorava, a serious young woman that he’s crazy about – and not just professionally. But he doesn’t take into account Sorava’s over-protective older brother, or Bilou, an attractive wheeler-dealer also catapulted into the part of Sorava’s on-screen partner. The whole neighborhood gets involved in the project: friends and neighbors form a crew overseeing everything from the lighting to sound recording. Although they’ve got the best will in the world, they’re hindered by their hopeless amateurism. It affects the shoot, tensions rise and several bad guys move in for the kill… Bobigny is far from Hollywood, as is Kubrick from doubting the energy and tact required to steer his first feature to the big screen.
