Synopsis
Taoufik, a doctor from Casablanca, goes to Tangiers to attend an ophthalmology conference. He takes advantage of the occasion to celebrate his first wedding anniversary with his wife Sophia. Taoufik is drugged during a dinner and mysterious characters kidnap Sophia. They lock her up and rape her, filming it all the while. Taoufik gets back in touch with his brother Kamel, a disillusioned, nihilistic cop. It's a stormy reunion. Taoufik steals his brother's gun, and makes his way to where Sophia is being held captive. Shocked by the videotape of the rape, he kills a man. He and Sophia make their getaway across Morocco. . . .

About
Morocco's splendors have fascinated generations of foreign film-makers; Moroccans themselves started to shoot films in the fifties. Moroccan cinema has gone through various ups and downs and it's only in the last few years that we can note a revival. Nabil Ayouch isn't yet thirty, but remember his name – he's a film-maker we're going to be hearing a lot about. This movie, brilliantly and excitingly edited in a classic thriller mode, is a gripping depiction of a country where modernity and tradition co-exist. Moroccan reality pulses throughout this chase film.
