Drancy Avenir
Synopsis
''Drancy Avenir'' is made up of three tales:
First tale, The last man to have survived the Final Solution, against the Jews during World War Two, is about to die. In an agonising voice the old man speaks of his desolation at not having left an enduring account of the horrors he had witnessed.
Second tale, A young historian is researching the former concentration camp at Drancy. Upon discovering that on the site there is now a housing estate called ''Cité de la Muette'' (The Estate of the Silent) the young woman brings the extermination of Europe's Jews to bear upon the present: the world in which she lives, Paris and its suburbs, becomes the world of the Final Solution.
Third tale, On his boat, a captain tells of a slow journey up an uncharted river, to the point where the conquering civilisation which he represents and the savagery that this civilisation would educate have become indiscernible. These three tales do not meet.

"I'm 35 years old, I'm French, and I'm not Jewish. I say I'm 35, because I belong to that generation who will witness the demise of the last victim of the Final Solution, which means we'll now have to learn to pass on the truth of the Holocaust without recourse to the living word of survivors. I say that I am French, because my film does not single out Germany nor the Germans, but deals with the extermination of Jews by the French themselves. I say that I am not Jewish, in order to highlight the enormous effort required to face up to this crucial event in our history -the destruction of Europe's Jews- this enormous task which in the main is left to the Jews themselves to handle, which is scandalous in itself, as it ought to beshared by the community as a whole. It is thus in this capacity of 'non-Jew', however much like imposture that may sound, that I propose thiscinematic vision of my time." (Arnaud des Pallières)
