Synopsis
A village in Alsace towards 1870. To the delight of local worthies and merchants, work on the new railway line has started under the supervision of the Parisian engineer. The blacksmith, Daniel Roch, is the only one who refuses to let traditions be overturned by this infernal machine which could turn the "milk black".
