This is a tale from Africa, a story of long time ago. It recounts the adventures of Oulé the black child and Sirga the little lioness - how they became friends, were separated, and finally found each other again.
It all began at Pama. Pama is located in Baculé territory, between the White Volta and the Black Volta Rivers. Oulé is a slip of a boy, with black skin polished by the sun. Sirga is a lioness, a blond princess with green eyes.
Child and animal were born on the same day, and both shared the same milk. Oulé is the son of Moko Kaouro, village chief and great hunter. Sirga is the daughter of Ouara the Queen. Ouara is queen because lions still rule this realm. Which means that everyone - men from the savannah as well as wild animals in the bush - remain under her protection...
