Distributed in Germany by Schwarz-Weiss Filmverleih, the film by Sijie Dai has crossed the 200,000 admissions mark.
Released on Christmas Day, "The Little Chinese Seamstress" (distributed in the USA as "Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress") is still going strong in German theaters, having enjoyed a remarkably long run in a very fast-moving market. The film produced by Les Films de la Suane thus boasts a running total of 207,000 admissions after 10 weeks on the screens, still with 32 prints in circulation (after an initial 44-print release). This represents a new success story for Schwarz-Weiss Filmverleih , a small-scale distributor who previously turned up trumps with "Time Regained" in 2001 (attracting over 100,000 spectators).
"The Little Chinese Seamstress" is coming close to matching the fine performance of "Euro Pudding" (aka "The Spanish Apartment"), which has registered 263,000 admissions to date, also an excellent score for the German market. Distributed by Tobis, "Euro Pudding" is still drawing the crowds with 46 prints in circulation after 16 weeks.
