10 French films and one French co-production have been selected at the upcoming Venice International Film Festival, to be held from August 31 through September 10 this year.
The 2005 festival will present an eclectic program of French productions, with a range of auteur films, debut films, and films with wide audience appeal eagerly awaited at the Lido Cinema.
Laurent Cantet and Charlotte Rampling will be present at the event to accompany “Vers le Sud” (“Heading South”); along with Patrice Chéreau, Isabelle Huppert, and Pascal Greggory for “Gabrielle;” and Philippe Garrel and Louis Garrel for “Les Amants réguliers,” which features in the Official Competition.
The Out of Competition selection features “Backstage,” which will be accompanied by Emmanuelle Bercot and Emmanuelle Seigner; and “Le Parfum de la dame en noir” (“Perfume of the Lady in Black”), to be screened in the presence of Bruno Podalydes and Sabine Azéma.
Dedicated to debut feature films, the Critics’ Week section includes “Le Passager” by Eric Caravaca and “Belzec” by Guillaume Moscovitz.
Venice Days, the Italian equivalent of the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, has selected three French feature films: “Le Petit Lieutenant” by Xavier Beauvois, “13-Tzameti” by Gela Babluani, and “Attente” by Rashid Masharawi. The directors of these films will be present at the festival.
Unifrance will be providing those involved in the films selected (actors, directors, and producers, as well as exporters and journalists, etc.) present in Venice with the services of a Club in which to hold interviews and professional meetings.
