Budapest will host its 9th French Film Festival from April 21 through 23, 2005, organized by Unifrance.
Eight films will be screened at the event at the request of their Hungarian distributors: "Arsène Lupin" by Jean-Paul Salomé, "5x2" by François Ozon, "Clean" by Olivier Assayas, "Dogora" by Patrice Leconte, "Genesis" by Marie Perennou and Claude Nuridsany, "San-Antonio" by Frédéric Auburtin, "Like an Image" (aka "Look at Me") by Agnès Jaoui and "Banlieue 13" by Pierre Morel.
The directors Jean-Paul Salomé, Patrice Leconte, Marie Perennou, Claude Nuridsany, Frédéric Auburtin and Pierre Morel, and the actress Marilou Berry ("Like an Image") will make the trip to the Hungarian capital for the event to meet with audiences and the media.
This event, which has made a name for itself in the Hungarian movie landscape, serves a vital purpose by supporting the work of distributors, allowing them to prepare the ground for the commercial release of French films whose rights they have acquired. Hungary is one of the strongest markets for French films in Eastern Europe. This can be illustrated by a selection of figures: 34 new French films were released in 2004, including 27 French-language productions, for 500,000 spectators and €2.36 million in receipts.
