For this latest MyFrenchShorts, and to coincide with the TIFF screening of Ladj Ly's new feature film, Bâtiment 5, Unifrance invites you to discover or rediscover Les Misérables, the original short film that the director remade a few years later as a feature film, to great acclaim.
"Sig-Sauer on his belt and tonfa in his hand, Pento has just joined the Seine-Saint-Denis anti-crime squad. Learning from his two experienced team-mates, he develops his own particular methods..."
In 2017, Ladj Ly directed this confronting short film about a day on a police patrol in the Paris high-rise banlieue. Two years later, the feature film of the same title was released, taking up and expanding the adventures of the characters in the short. While the short had already toured the world, the feature earned its director the Jury Prize at Cannes, three Césars, and an Oscar nomination for Best International Film.
