The 2023 edition of Cartoon Forum will take place in Toulouse from September 18 to 21, 2023. A total of 37 French series projects will be presented at the event, making France once again the leading country in terms of production.
Projects targeting six- to nine-year-olds are in the majority (14 projects out of 37), but series aimed at teenagers or adults are also well represented, with nine projects in all. International co-productions are still rare at this stage (only five), and are produced with Belgian, Danish, Bulgarian and British partners.
Many of the projects are adaptations of French or foreign literary works (nine in all), but there are also two series that are serialized variants of successful films: Pil, le long-métrage de Julien Fournet's feature film, which has sold over 1.6 million tickets outside France, has been adapted into a series: Pil's Adventures. The same is true of Britt Raes's multi-award-winning short Luce and the Rock, which has now been adapted into a series entitled Luce and the Lovely Land.
It's also worth noting that several projects feature directors who have already made a name for themselves with their previous work. Cédric Frémeaux, director of the 50/50 Heroes series, will be presenting his new series Filip & Fairy and Agnès Patron, winner of the César for Best Animated Short in 2021 with And then the Bear, is co-directing a series entitled Grandpa & Grandma Made the Revolution. Arnaud Demuynck, director of numerous short films and more recently of the feature Yuku and the Flower of the Himalayas, now has a series project called The Princess and the Nightingale, which he is co-directing and producing.
