In the context of a recovery from the global health crisis and the resumption of festivals and markets, Unifrance is strengthening its collaboration with Series Mania, in line with the association's new mission to promote artists in the TV industry while continuing to accompany professionals in the sector.
The success of French drama series, both in terms of sales figures and international awards (such as Call My Agent!, which recently won the International Emmy Award for Best Comedy), attests to their strong potential in the international arena.
Their growing appeal is confirmed by the latest figures revealed in a study conducted by the CNC and Unifrance. The study shows that the export of French television productions reached an all-time high in 2020, despite the effects of the pandemic, with a capital flow of €354.8 million—the highest level in the past 25 years.
The second most popular export genre, French TV dramas have registered a hike of 135% in sales in 10 years, demonstrating the increasingly high standards of productions and their ability to reach audiences in international markets.*
It is within this particularly encouraging context that Unifrance will be mobilizing its forces at the upcoming Series Mania, with a stronger participation in the Series Mania Forum and the organization of the 7th edition of "COMING NEXT from FRANCE."
This event, presented in the form of pitch sessions, will present five new French series that are currently in the final production stages to a panel of foreign buyers. It will enable five distributor/producer duos to enhance the visibility of their programs in the international market.
The five series presented in 2022:
- Cuisine interne, distributed by Have A Good One (HAGO)
- Diane de Poitiers, distributed by France tv distribution
- I3P, distributed by Mediawan Rights
- Marion, distributed by Have A Good One (HAGO)
- Vortex, distributed by France tv distribution
These five projects with audacious narratives and directing styles are bolstered by casts that include prestigious names as well as new faces. Developed by both established and up-and-coming production companies, and embracing the full breadth and diversity of genres of French TV productions (including social dramas, crime stories, horror, historical dramas, and sci-fi), these works, each in their own way, explore singular universes and encapsulate the current offer in French creative works. Unifrance is proud to be raising international awareness of these productions.
