French animation is in the spotlight at this year's edition of European Film Awards, with two French productions (Josep and Calamity) among the four nominees in the Best Animated Film category. In addition, The Big Hit has been nominated in the Best Comedy category, as well as Little Girl in the Best Documentary category, and Gagarine and Jumbo shortlisted for the European Discovery - FIPRESCI Prize.
Founded in 1988 by the European Film Academy (EFA), the European Film Awards honor the best of European cinema, with awards voted on by its 3,800 members, who have been given until December 3 this year to submit their votes.
The awards will be presented during a series of virtual events to be held between December 8 and 12. These events will replace the public awards ceremony that was planned to be held in Reykjavik, but had to be cancelled due the current health crisis.
