In August, German audiences once again showed their appreciation of French comedies, while at the box office on the other side of the Atlantic, an auteur film made a symbolic achievement.
This month, 4 majority-French productions attracted over 100,000 spectators in theaters outside France.

August marked a new success for the German distributor Neue Visionen. While A Sense of Wonder continued its excellent run in Germany (with 650,000 admissions registered at the end of August), the distributor launched The Student and Mr. Henri during the summer, pulling in close to 450,000 moviegoers in six weeks. This is a new triumph for Neue Visionen after a series of popular releases: A Sense of Wonder, Paulette (592,000 admissions), and, above all, Serial (Bad) Weddings (3.9 million admissions), which is still showing in theaters two years after it was first released!
Also in Germany, The Cow, released mid-July, posted a total of 80,000 admissions at the end of August—the film's best score in an international market at this stage. It has crossed the 200,000 admissions mark abroad, including 66,000 admissions in Colombia, where it stands out as the most successful French film since the beginning of the year.
Agnus Dei / The Innocents pursued its successful run in North America. Anne Fontaine's new film leads the charts for majority-French productions in this market in 2016, with close to $1 million in ticket sales to date (around 115,000 admissions). It now ranks as Fontaine's second most popular film in North America after Coco Before Chanel, which took over $6 million. By the end of August, Agnus Dei counted over 275,000 admissions across eight international markets. It has also had a promising debut in Quebec, with around 10,000 admissions registered in six theaters after two weeks.
