UniFrance Films is teaming up with the Galaxy Theatres multiplex chain in the USA for the theatrical and VOD distribution of 6 new, previously unreleased French films each quarter.
UniFrance Films has unveiled an innovative new distribution model for theatrical and VOD platforms in the United States for the release of French films that have not secured an American distributor (noting that between 50 and 60 French films are currently released each year in the USA).
In this initiative, UniFrance Films is providing support to a new scheme aimed at circulating 6 recent French films in around 30 American theaters via a mini-festival of French films. This operation will be repeated on a quarterly basis, thus allowing 24 French films that have not been distributed in the USA to benefit from commercial theatrical release.
These packages of 6 films will then be released on American VOD platforms two months after their theatrical release.
The first series of 6 titles will be launched on June 2, 2014, with the following feature films selected by Galaxy Theatres:
Under the Rainbow by Agnès Jaoui
It Boy by David Moreau
Little Lion by Samuel Collardey
A Monkey on My Shoulder by Marion Laine
Tour de Force by Laurent Tuel
Jappeloup by Christian Duguay
These 6 films will first be showcased in 10 theaters from June 2 through 5, 2014 in Bloomington, Dallas, Fairfax, Gig Harbor, Honolulu, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Sacramento, and San Diego, followed by 20 additional theaters at the end of the month.
Depending on their box office performance, the complete series or certain titles will then be programmed for release in other theaters throughout the summer.
