Times change. One government replaces another, the militia gives way to police, old scores get settled. Unstability is still the rule, and politics can erupt brutally into people's lives. A former Interior Ministry officer draws Marek into an ambush in order to take revenge on Marek's brother. This tactic is as old as the Bible, God having killed Job's sons to punish Job. The wounded Marek, however, survives. His attackers are afraid of being identified, and Marek flees the hospital to stay clear of them. He has become amnesiac, yet knows he is being followed, and so he tries to hole up. But he is noticed by the Crazy Lady, who hides him at her place. She is kind to him, helps him recover his identity. Marek eventually gets his name back. And his house, although his mother is no longer there. Danger still lurks everywhere, and the Crazy Lady is preparing to leave for France, land of her dreams....
