Yvon is no ordinary traitor. To save Stella, who is Jewish, from being sent to a concentration camp, he enters into a pact with the Devil: he exchanges his mistress’s freedom for his honor by accepting to work for the Gestapo. Love is his ideal. He becomes a collaborator from one day to the next, with absolutely no remorse. In fact, he quickly only sees the advantages of his actions: he quickly becomes rich by trafficking artworks. But it is August 1944 and the war reaches its end. Stella cannot resign herself to admitting that Yvon will be condemned by the new order put into place. One hope remains: to get to Spain and wait there until things calm down. But the journey reveals to the lovers what they’ve tried to hide from themselves: by saving Stella, Yvon has made their love affair impossible. To escape death, Yvon can now only foresee more betrayal. Stella begins to doubt her love for this man who becomes increasingly a stranger to her. She lets Yvon go to Spain alone.
