Synopsis
This two-part documentary uses archive footage and colour to recount two decades of chaos and rebirth, disillusionment and hope: France from 1944 to 1962. At the end of the war, the French entered the Trente Glorieuses, a contrasting period during which they experienced the turmoil and enthusiasm of the post-war years, the beginnings of industrial modernity, and carefree years of social revolution and growth. But the Algerian War, with its attacks and bloody repression, marked a return to an atmosphere of crisis that had been forgotten for a generation.
