Synopsis
Fifty times stronger than heroin, fentanyl kills more than two people daily in San Francisco and is responsible for 75,000 deaths annually across the United States. But it’s also a symptom of a deeper issue: the failure of anti-opioid policies in California, and more broadly in the U.S.
How are «harm reduction» policies being implemented by the San Francisco authorities? Why have public officials been unable to curb this epidemic, which is ravaging the tech capital?
Through the intertwined portraits of an addict and her guardian angel — one of the few individuals helping junkies seek treatment — this documentary offers an immersive look into the daily life of a district that has recently become a containment zone for dependent people. It prompts reflection on the effectiveness of California’s drug policies, particularly as the opioid and homelessness crises become central issues in the upcoming election campaign.
