The Long, Long Holiday
Synopsis
Summer 1939. Ernest, aged 11, and Colette, aged 6, two little Parisians, are in Normandy, in Grangeville, staying with their grandparents, Mamilie and Papilou. War broke out, and the decision was made to keep them away from Paris for a while, to ‘see what was coming’. This weekend was to last for the five years of the war, turning into a ‘big holiday’... Parachuted into the countryside, a world totally foreign to them, Ernest and Colette discovered a new life far from their parents. They will have to find their place among the village children and deal with the worries of the adults. They will also be confronted with the exodus, the German occupation, requisitions, deprivation and the loss of loved ones. They will grow up, resist in their own way and adapt while all their points of reference are turned upside down.
