Heart of Darkness
Synopsis
In a near-future Rio de Janeiro shaken by social unrest, the city is cut off from the rest of the country after mysterious attacks destroy its main roads. Marlon is sent on a dangerous mission to find Captain Kurtz. Travelling by small boat through Guanabara Bay, swamp canals, favelas, polluted waters and open-air dumps, far from Rio’s postcard image, Marlon eventually reaches Kurtz, now the leader of a messianic paramilitary militia. Seen by his followers as the reincarnation of Exu, an Umbandista god, Kurtz claims to break the cycle of violence and misery caused by drug trafficking.
