Synopsis
Two years after the Fukushima nuclear accident, orphans Akiko (12) and Otani (9) live with their grandmother Obasan in a refugee camp. When their grandmother dies and a distant uncle turns up to take them back to Tokyo, Otani convinces his sister to run away. They must go and lay their grandmother's ashes at the foot of the family altar in Tomioka, in the heart of the forbidden zone. This is where Obasan would have liked to be laid to rest. Otani, a reserved child who only communicates with Yokais - supernatural, mischievous creatures - and Akiko, the little beauty blogger, embark on a dangerous quest. But Otani and Akiko's determination will not waver. Brave and united, they reach Obasan's uninhabited farm. In an unexpected and dreamlike finale, the old woman's spirit will find peace.
