Synopsis
During the interwar years, over 800 young Polish women came to the Indre-et-Loire region to work as domestic servants on farms. We have learned of their stories from letters exchanged between these women and their social worker, Julie Duval. Louis Clergeau, an amateur photographer whose images are interspersed throughout the film, has given faces and bodies to their stories. This film shows a little-known chapter of French immigration history and tells us of the harsh fate of these migrants in the Touraine countryside, a story that is just as distressing today.
