The Old Man of Belem
Synopsis
An unhampered and desperate dive into History as we know it, like a fertile sediment in Manoel de Oliveira’s memory. On a park bench in the 21st century, Oliveira brings together Don Quixote with the poet Luís Vaz de Camões, and novelists Joaquim Pereira Teixeira de Pascoaes and Camilo Castelo Branco. Carried along by telluric waves of thought, these men wander between past and present, glory and defeat, emptiness and alienation, chasing after an unreachable star.
