A filmmaker attempts to delve, with his crew, into the incandescent world of Port-Royal and Jansenism, sketching by fragments another Great Century, strangely familiar, that of Pascal, Racine, and the “Amis de la Vérité.” Landscapes traversed, precious readings, interviews, and work notes intertwine, but the historical quest slowly starts to spin dizzily. And, from baroque flights of fancy to hysterical convulsions, it is the whole film that takes a wildly different turn, irremediably coming up against the unanswerable question of Grace.
