Hussein has been humiliated once too often. He intended to take revenge, but winds up killing the manager of a jewelry store in a chic Teheran neighborhood, before taking his own life. This news story masks a tale of a lonely man sickened by human misery.
A few days earlier, when his friend Ali showed him the contents of a handbag that he’d found, Hussein couldn’t even begin to believe the astronomical sum indicated on a receipt for a necklace. He knows that his miserable salary would never allow him to buy an object of such worth. When a man takes them for two smalltime thieves, Hussein feels humiliated again. Things take a turn for the worse when they’re not allowed to enter the jewelry store because of their shabby clothes.
Hussein delivers pizzas. Every night, he weaves through rich neighborhoods and catches glimpses of the high life that goes on behind closed doors. The omnipresent hypocrisy of the system increasingly weighs down upon him.
However, he gets to live the high life for just one night, as fascinating as it is horrible. Early in the morning, in a calm state of mind, he decides to return to the jewelry store.
