One Evening After the War

One Evening After the War

A Feature film by Rithy Panh

Produced by JBA Production

Release in France : 16/12/1998

    Synopsis

Rithy Panh is the same age as Savannah, his film’s main character. Like him, he endured the Pol Pot regime as a child and many of his family were exterminated. Savannah, though deeply scarred, is bursting with vitality and boundless energy. Srey Poeuv wants to die, thinking she will never live down the humiliation of what she has become. “War drives people mad and shatters every kind of solidarity,” Rithy Panh reminds us. In this utterly fragile environment, he tells the story of a passion that leads the seeker of life to his death, and the seeker of death to live on with the memory of her love.

    About

"I produced Rithy’s first documentary, ‘Site II’, and also his first feature, ‘Rice People’, so our partnership goes back a long way. The first time I met Rithy, what struck me most was the tremendous strength he emanates, the story he has to tell. ‘One Evening After the War’ is an uncompromising film that tells about the irreversible violence inflicted on Cambodia in the course of a cruel and interminable war. The survivors are trying now to rebuild the country and, above all, their own lives." (Jacques Bidou, Producer)
