Chef Inspector Diamant is investigating the ritual murder of two young black girls. They have been scarified and hung, with ceremonial masks from Mali over their faces. Danièle Cissé, 18, and her father who arrived from Mali 20 years ago are among the first suspects. Their world is incomprehensible for Diamant, an intelligent cop blinded by European rationality. He needs a middleman. He chooses Professor Nessim Taïeb, an ethno-psychiatrist specialized in mental disorders in immigrants. The policeman and the psychiatrist are both masters in their field, made up of intuition and influence. The problem is, the solution lies neither in the physical world nor that of logic...

About
"I met Tobie while I was preparing a film about him. That film never came about, mainly because it's impossible to film ethno-psychiatric sessions. You end up with a sort of drama, divided into acts. There's a closed room, with the onlookers sitting in a circle. First act : a stranger arrives and tells a tale. Second act : an exchange of ideas gives meaning to the tale. Third act : therapeutic suggestions. Fourth act : once the patient has left, the others question each other about what they have said. Such staging is the basis of theatrical show and highlights the similarities between our two trades : you discover the patient at the first glance. A session, like a film, only works through a group effort and you're only as good as the others. There's no mystery about it : once you cast your gaze on someone else, the thing that you are making - session, therapy, film or play - acquires its full value. When he realized that the documentary wouldn't be made, Tobie let me read the best passages of his thriller... I was fascinated, despite the difficulty of the adaptation. I wanted to take up that challenge..." (Denis Amar)
