Synopsis
This is the story of Ema, a woman of menacing beauty. For Carlos, her husbband, whom she married without love, "hers was a face which could justify the life of a man". Her taste for luxury, her illusions in life and the desire which she inspired in men, earned her the name of "the little Bovary". She would have three lovers, but her sucessive loves brought her no more than a feeling of great disillusion so that she came to think of herself as nothing more than "a soul in the balance". Ema dies - "accidently, perhaps ?" - on a day of glorious sunshine, after dressing as though for a ball.
