Synopsis
In 1929 Mr Messier, who owns a village printing shop, is left a widower with two children: nine year old Rachel and sevent year old Gaetan. Together they live in a large room over the family business. In this closed universe, without a motherUs love, a great complicity develops between the children and their collusion grows even stronger after their father is injured in a accident and they have the upstairs room completely to themselves. Adolescents, they work side by side. They keep no secrets whatsooever from one another and if not shared, their friendships are at least related in detail. Their intimacy becomes a symbiotic know-ledge of one another that they experience in total serenity, moving very naturally from the world games to that of love. Their harmony is shattered only by war, as Gaetan is drafted. Rachel, pregnant marries Emile, their fatherUs associate. The war over, Gaetan returns home. Emile and Rachel run the printing shop and raise Jérome. Confronted with their emotions, they are forced to choose.
