DirectorActorsSynopsisOn the outskirts of Bucharest one hot summer day, Norica, a young waitress and Mitu, a pig farm worker, meet, taunt each other and play at who will drink and dare the most. Next morning, Mitu’s mind is a blank. What happened between them? But their affair is more than a shot in the dark. It could easily gel into something like marriage, if it weren’t for two blots on the horizon: Norica’s intention to marry Gili, her 50-year-old boss and lover, and the sudden news that Mitu has been drafted into the army for two years. AboutMitu Cafanu is my most radical character to date. His stubbornness and his fury against privileges, which gradually build up to fever pitch, give him the luminous, even mystical aura of an idiot — in fact the film could have been named “The Idiot”. His radicality doesn’t show so obviously at first, because of his absurdist humor, but underneath it’s always there. Naturally, he also applies it to his games of love and luck. (Lucian Pintilié)
