The Rendez-vous with French Cinema in the United Kingdom took place from March 16 through March 20 in London and Edinburgh.
The aim of this initiative is to present a selection of six films that have been acquired in the UK and are slated for release in three months of the Rendez-vous event. The following films, selected in close collaboration with distributors, were showcased at the event:
Potiche by François Ozon, in the director's presence (Optimum), The Princess of Montpensier by Bertrand Tavernier, in the presence of the director Gaspard Ulliel, and Mélanie Thierry (Optimum), Love Like Poison by Katell Quillévéré, in the director's presence (Artificial Eye), The Round Up by Roselyne Bosch, in the director's presence (Revolver), Point Blank by Fred Cavayé, in the director's presence (Vertigo),The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec by Luc Besson, in the director's presence (Optimum).
The films were given premiere screenings in London at the Curzon Soho, BFI Southbank, and Ciné Lumière. Question and answer sessions with the public, hosted by journalists Jonathan Romney (The Independent), Ian Haydn Smith (programmer at the Curzon Cinema), Dave Calhoun (Time Out), and Paul Ryan, followed each screening.
After London, Bertrand Tavernier then traveled to Edinburgh, where he presented his film to the public during a discussion led by the journalist Richard Mowe (The Scotsman).
Publicity for this event was boosted by the purchase of advertising space in the magazines Sight & Sound, Time Out, and The Skinny, as well as in local press. Cinémoi - The French Movie Channel also covered the event.
For this 2nd edition, the Rendez-vous with French Cinema in the United Kingdom attracted more than 1,100 spectators.
