The founder and president of the independent distributor Tornado Film, Shintaro Kanai, has just announced that the company will shut down after suffering "severe damage in the recession in the Japanese distribution sector." The company's debt totals 300 million yen (2.38 million euros).
Specializing in genre films, Tornado had recently released Surviving with Wolves, Frontier(s), Inside, The Besieged Fortress, The Page Turner, The Passenger, and The Ordeal.
This marks the fourth bankruptcy announced in Japan in the movie sector, after the demise of Wise Policy, Movie-Eye, and Xanadeux. The future of Cine Qua Non, currently in receivership, remains uncertain.
