For the 18th MyFrenchShort, free to watch worldwide* on Youtube until January 2025, discover Butterfly by Florence Miailhe.
Butterfly is a gentle, poignant retelling of the life of French swimmer Alfred Nakache. In the twilight of his life, as he dives into the ocean, his memories flash by. Born into a Jewish family in North Africa, he overcame his fear of water to break the world butterfly breaststroke record in 1941. Deported to Auschwitz, he returned to the pool for the 1948 London Olympics.
Butterfly won the Crystal Bear, awarded by the Youth Jury, at the latest Berlinale, and was in Official Competition at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, where it received the André Martin Prize.
Discover the profound story of one man's last swim, a journey that transcends time and space, magnificently animated by a true master.
