“La Beuze,” “Taxi 3,” “Laughter and Punishment” and more: The top 15 French films abroad in February, 2003.
The month of February showed a bumper crop of French films released in France since the beginning of 2003. Titles such as “Taxi 3,” “La Beuze” and “Laughter and Punishment” are performing as well in Switzerland and Belgium as at home. These productions all catapulted straight into our charts in their first month on the screens, and have also got off to an excellent start in Belgium.
The most outstanding launch in Belgium is credited to “Taxi 3.” With 59 prints released by Alternative, the film registered close to 300,000 admissions at the beginning of March. Released by the same distributor, ”La Beuze” attracted 40,000 spectators after three weeks, boasting an average of 1,385 spectators per print in its opening week. “Laughter and Punishment” also registered a healthy per print average: the film released by Belga Film pulled in an average of 1,470 spectators per print after one week in theaters.
The documentary “To Be and To Have” continues to gather speed, making significant progress in European markets outside France. In Italy, the film attracted around 44,600 spectators in one month. In the wake of the film’s successful launch, its distributor, Bim Distribuzione, increased the number of prints from 6 at the time of its release February 7 to 18 prints early March. And finally, “Euro Pudding” continues to put in a fine performance abroad, once again hitting the top of our charts thanks to its scores in Spain and Italy. At the end of February, the film totaled the same admissions figures in both countries: 293,000 spectators.
