France was well-represented at the Shanghai International Film Festival, held from June 17 through 25.
The two French films in the festival competition picked up awards: “Burnt Out” by Fabienne Godet won the awards for Best Director and Best Actor (for Olivier Gourmet), while “The Perfume of the Lady in Black” by Bruno Podalydès received the Exploration Spirit Award from the television channel CCTV 6, a prize granted by a jury of 200 Chinese journalists.
At the closing ceremony, the actress Catherine Deneuve was presented with an award honoring her entire career. The following French films were also included in the festival program: “The Trail” by Eric Valli, “You Are So Beautiful” by Isabelle Mergault, “Works” by Brigitte Roüan, “Negah” by Sepideh Farsi, “Animal” by Roselyne Bosch, and “Sky Fighters” by Gérard Pirès. Finally, in honor of jury president Luc Besson, the festival organizers also put together a retrospective of Besson’s films and those produced by his production company EuropaCorp.
